..What? Why? Who??
Welcome to the MMP Development Blog! A newsletter sent out on the 10th of every month detailing all of the current progress for Mario’s Monday Morning Mixup, found right here!
We didn’t really like the overload of bite-size teasers we were sending out and the limited things we could really do with said teasers since we’re only really publicising this mod on around 2 Discord servers; so we figured we’d spice it up a bit, just in time for the mods other notable birthday that really kicked things off. (May 10th! Today!)

Here you’ll find more in depth progress reports on whatever we’re working on, some fun facts and just generally a better look into how this project is shaping up to be. Most blog posts will be written by me, Avery, but if there’s anything any of the other team members would like to comment on they’re more than welcome to join in :]
That being said, here’s the rest of the team!!
Hi I’m Murioz! Goofy fella who likes to make music and also loves super mario!!! I’ve been making music for 3-4 years now so I like to think I’m a decent composer. I composed a good chunk of the soundtrack for this! If you wanna listen to my work, I’d recommend looking at my Youtube or Twitter since that’s where I mainly post my songs.
Hello! I’m Gabe, nice to meetcha!
I’m the one and only coder for the mod, which means I’m responsible for programming everyone’s ideas into reality, from making extra character animations to creating entire menus and everything in-between. I’ve also done some music for the mod, although Murioz does most of the compositions. I also edit some of Logan’s charts for certain songs (for example I added the gun notes for Flintlock).
If you’ve heard that I’m the director of the mod from someone, I’m afraid they’re mistaken. The entire team co-directs our projects: for example, Avery might give an idea and some art for a song for Murioz to interpret and compose, who then hands the audio for Logan to interpret into a chart and me to functionalize via scripting.
Heya!! I’m Logan, Charter and one of the initial people who worked on MMP! I started charting for Gabe back when it was just remixes he had made of the original MNMM OST. And seeing Avery and Murioz join, and what this mod has evolved into with our efforts, makes me very happy :] we’ve come a long way. and I’m glad to be part of it! even if i just do the charts :D
As of this blog post going out it will be a day after Logan’s birthday!! Go wish him a happy (late) birthday!!
..And I’m Avery!! The artist and animator for just about everything you poke your eyes at for everything surrounding the project; I also do pretty much all of the writing from character dialogue to the very words you’re reading on screen! (and also this entire website) Fun!
That being said, the existence of this blog doesn’t mean we’re going all hands on deck with this doohickey and abandoning those other places though!! Teasers will still be posted in their respective places, but this is pretty much the hub for any MMP related news from this point.
Introduction aside, let’s get into actual development stuff!!!
Main Week Development
I see a lot of mods prioritising extra content that isn’t really important over the actual main content of the mod. We’ve been.. Trying not to fall into that development cycle.
For a while we were in a loop of focusing on the extra content and the main content of the mod at the same time, though we’ve started focusing our attention on the main week as of the past few weeks. ..That and menus, which I’ll go over later.
Regarding the audible aspect of this, I suppose a little context is in order:
Back before I (Avery) wedged myself into this project and increased its scope tenfold, this project thing was a simple remix mod of the original Monday Night Mario Mix spearheaded by Gabe with Logan on for charting.
Surprisingly, a lot of the content from this era remained in the project, primarily the first 2 songs of the main week, being Flintlock and Thunderstruck; which were remixes of Firearm and Stormstrike from the original Monday Night Mario Mix.
This didn’t sit right with me and the other team members as the last song in the main week, Antagonistic, was a fully original take on Opposites, and having a completely new song at the end of 2 remixes seemed a bit odd to us.
In light of this, as of the last few weeks we decided we wanted to shed this “remix” aspect and go fully original with all of the songs in the mod, all of which were composed by Murioz! Who I’ll let speak on it now:
Avery asked if I wanted to write something about the development of the main week soundtrack and I figured I might as well. Main thing is: Music doesn’t always come out how you want it to, and you don’t usually get something you’re happy with on the first try. That goes with about any type of media (Avery struggles with that quite a lot) (fuck you)
In short, Thunderstruck and Flintlock went through a few versions before we got something we liked. You can listen to the god awful previous attempts right HERE
^ First attempt, sounded a bit too "happy go lucky" so we scrapped it.
^ Second attempt. Eugh.
^ Gabe did this one, I’ll let it play out for itself.
There’s not anything to write home about the old versions for these, so I’ll show off the new and improved versions, starting with Thunderstruck:
(Do you like my Mr. L fancam? Isn’t it wonderful?)
This is an updated version of a teaser we sent out before this as BF was pitched up a lot prior, it’s also inspired a lot by Ezzy’s FNF music.
As for Flintlock, that’ll be showcased in a bit so keep reading if you want to see the new teaser for it.
As of writing this I’m remaking an 8 month old freeplay song for the mod! I’m glad because it’s kind icky popoo anyway that’s enough from me idk why I wrote this-
Thanks for your very meaningful input. Back to me :]
On the visual end of things, progress has been going pretty well. I finally nailed down some character references for the main cast a bit ago and I’ve been trying to work these designs into sprites since that point. As of currently, Boyfriend is around 95% complete with alt animations and more, while Mr. L has still got no updates since 2024 lol

As for Cherry and his debut song Flintlock, progress has been going extremely well. So well in fact, that I managed to finish pretty much all visuals required for his song in 2 days flat.
Cherry has gone through probably the most redesigns in the mod compared to any other character because I could never make a design I could truly say I’m happy with; which changed the morning of April 24th when I finally created his final sprite. After FIVE iterations and not being fully completed for the mod’s entire development cycle, I completed him.. In 1 day.

On Top of this, I managed to finish the main week’s stage the day after. Funny timing for this too, as we’re just about 2 months short of the very first gameplay teaser related to the mod, which also so happened to be Flintlock (or Firearm, as it was still called at the time)
Taking advantage of the situation, we decided to post a snippet of Flintlock’s gameplay to Twitter, which you can view below.
People really like it, and that’s pretty damn cool!! Hi, me again, this song is inspired a lot by the new Sussus Mogus (2025) from UPDOG ok thank you byee
I’m planning to wrap up the main week visually by the end of the next few months as I’m still pretty busy with my school coursework. Then I have to focus on cutscenes! ..But I’d rather focus on that in a later blog post because thinking about them puts a very big frown on my face.
